LOS ANGELES, THURSDAY, AUGUST 8 — South Los Angeles’ own Trev Deshon has released the official video to “Stressin,” the title track to his debut album Stressin’, featuring Casey Veggies, Garren and Xian Bell, Derrius Logan and Rome Castille. The video was premiered by Earmilk on Thursday, August 8.
Similar to his prior visual releases for “Greedy,” featuring Garrenand Xian Bell, and “Patience,” Trev, who began his entertainment career in theatre, continues to lace his latest music video with A1 theatrics. While he offered a Godfather-like theme in “Patience,” “Stressin” opens with a brief conversation between Trev, who’s restrained in a straitjacket, and a therapist sitting across from him. As the music queues, Trev begins explaining the culprits behind his stress: his journey to success; looking after his family; supporting imprisoned friends; and the diverse women he encounters.
On Trev’s debut album, the rapper opens up about his relatable and combative journey into adulthood, growing up in South Central; finding success in the music industry; and discussing the relatable woes of keeping patient while watching others become successful, accompanied with the many distractions that’ll keep one from a positive path. Prior to, Trev dropped several projects, previously collaborating with West Coast staple Casey Veggies on the record “To the Top,” TDE’s Reason, and producer DJ Wes.
Born and raised in South Central, Los Angeles, Trev Deshon is an actor who, by chance, ended up pursuing music. While he began his professional career as an actor, Trev came to the realization that not only could he remember lengthy lines, but he loved to perform, write, and would constantly be reminded by peers of his unique voice.
So, with an already present passion for the arts and entertainment, in 2008 Trev eased his way into his new role, utilizing his prior acting skills, like stage presence and projecting his voice and personality. Over the next few years, Trev explored his newfound craft, and by 2013 he had honed in and was ready to perform.
While wasting no time and showing no signs of slowing down, Trev Deshon looks to have a consistent year in 2019, now releasing his first full-length album ‘Stressin’.’ On June 11, listeners grabbed a first-hand look into the project via its first single, “Patience,” and on July 18, his Garren and Xian Bell-assist, “Greedy,” premiered via POWER 106 LA.
As influences and mentors, Trev looks to OutKast/André 3000, A Tribe Called Quest/Q-Tip, JAY-Z, Kanye West and Wu-Tang. Stylistically, and similar to these artists, Trev’s music stresses the importance of cadence, originality, and beat selection.
Overall, he wishes to remain raw, authentic, genuine and unique in his sound; all while telling his story to offer knowledge, hope, positivity, and simply put, a “you can do it too” attitude. He emphasizes that a tough upbringing in a harsh environment doesn’t have to keep you captive. As long as you remain true to self, you too can make it out.
